New Giving Thoughts Series Article: A Beginner’s Guide to Measuring Social Value

The latest edition of the Giving Thoughts series, entitled “A Beginner’s Guide to Measuring Social Value,” is now available for download. Click here to access the free PDF. This edition was authored by Dr. Tessa Hebb and Babita Bhatt from the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation at Carleton University, Canada.

The Conference Board has identified social impact measurement as a key business issue for members, and we will continue to address the topic through Giving Thoughts blogs and series articles.

Introduction from “A Beginner’s Guide to Measuring Social Value”

Measuring social value is a daunting task, and many organizations do not know how or where to begin. The breadth of literature and lack of best practices makes the process of beginning impact measurement even more difficult. However, there are certain common steps that should be followed to reach a basic level of impact measurement, which can then be expanded upon. This Giving Thoughts article introduces these steps in a simple, concise way, and offers an overview of two of the more recognized frameworks for valuing social impact.
